I headed straight up to Glacier, but as it was rather hot, I used this dino statue as an excuse to pull over and visit the ice cream parlor right behind.
I went first to the Two Medicine lakes, at the southeast corner of the park, where I got the second-to-last, worst spot in the campground, directly next to the camp circle, so I had to hear the ranger talks both nights I was there (ok, one night was interesting--a Blackfoot man sang some Blackfoot songs and told Blackfoot stories).
The next morning I awoke bright and early to hike 16 or so miles up to a pass, to a lake and some waterfalls, then around both lakes. This view's from about a mile or half-mile below the pass, looking back to Upper Two Medicine Lake.
After that, I went to St. Mary's, the central eastern entrance. I left Two Medicine so early I got to the St. Mary's Visitor Center at 8:15 a.m. after driving over an hour.
I hiked some more, then relaxed on the pebbly beach.
I made a special trip to a lookout to see the sunset.
While I was excited to see these bighorn sheep, I was also sad because they are licking the antifreeze from tourists' cars off the ground.
Mountain goats! I was super excited when I saw this one, then I saw about 15 more and realized they were very habituated.
The trail out to this point was completely jammed with tourists, but the trail continued after an overlook, and no one went all the way to the lake. (I didn't go down to the lake either, just partway along the trail to escape the hoard.)
My last hike in Glacier took me up to a lake; the best part was that I blazed up the hill past all the tourists, who called after me to give them a tow, and I thought to myself, "I've already hiked 6 miles today."
As you can probably tell, I didn't really have much to do in Glacier but hike and take pictures (actually, I still have half a roll that I haven't finished, so I couldn't get them developed yet).
My 10 hour drive... I paused on the Columbia River for a few minutes on my power-drive back, but was quickly windblown.
